<br />
I'm a slacker. I admit it. I hardly took a picture and didn't take a single note at the RTR this year. I did, however, have a blast. <br />
<br />
Thank you, one and all, for writing these blog posts so I didn't have to.<br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QmEssnPY77g/VkderxMIazI/AAAAAAAAIAE/FvBxaoSKSLM/s1600/Theo%2Brio%2Bgrande.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QmEssnPY77g/VkderxMIazI/AAAAAAAAIAE/FvBxaoSKSLM/s320/Theo%2Brio%2Bgrande.JPG" /></a></div>
We camp for free when ever possible, and most of the time it's very possible. This might include overnighting at truck stops, Walmart or casinos. But, we avoid the blacktop camping as much as possible. My very favorite website to find resource to find free camping is <a href="http://freecampsites.net/">freecampsites.net</a>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-evT5_U9-hUo/Vkde7rcPSDI/AAAAAAAAIAM/6zFlNmwkrHw/s1600/I10%2Bmile%2Bmarker%2B53%2BNM.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-evT5_U9-hUo/Vkde7rcPSDI/AAAAAAAAIAM/6zFlNmwkrHw/s320/I10%2Bmile%2Bmarker%2B53%2BNM.JPG" /></a></div>
The people that created and own <a href="http://freecampsites.net/">freecampsites.net</a> are good friends. But, that's not why I use this valuable resource. This is my favorite because users are able to contribute and are updating the camping information constantly. Also, this is the grandfather of all the free camping resources, on the net. The owners are experienced techies and make the website VERY user friendly. They respond, immediately, to any concerns or problems you may have, if they're in a place with internet access. And they're eager to hear our ideas with regard to making the website better. You'll never be patronized or talked down to.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nvgUPnIINeo/Vkdf3ajylKI/AAAAAAAAIAY/DnKfNp72Tjc/s1600/winnie%2Btx.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nvgUPnIINeo/Vkdf3ajylKI/AAAAAAAAIAY/DnKfNp72Tjc/s320/winnie%2Btx.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Almost more important than anything else, J & J are out there, full-timing, van dwelling, free and wild camping 365/7/24. They understand our needs and desires as people who live a minimalist lifestyle, that want to be out and living in nature on a very frugal budget.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gNEofkt5zZI/VkdivuZ_lgI/AAAAAAAAIAk/3rjVMWy9Tv8/s1600/louisisana.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gNEofkt5zZI/VkdivuZ_lgI/AAAAAAAAIAk/3rjVMWy9Tv8/s320/louisisana.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
All the pictures in this post are free campsites I found on <a href="http://freecampsites.net/">freecampsites.net</a> as I traveled cross country.<br />
<br />
Most recently, I traveled from Massachusetts to Nevada. It was kind of a rushed trip (3 weeks to cross is rushing for me) because I had a couple of delays and a commitment in AZ.<br />
<br />
Because of that, we did a lot of parking lot camping.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We did find these two great sites on <a href="http://freecampsites.net/">freecampsites.net</a><br />
In <a href="http://freecampsites.net/#!514&query=sitedetails">Elk City, Oklahoma</a>, below<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tgODpZWJztg/Vkdq_DSLdgI/AAAAAAAAIBU/GykMRcLmyRY/s1600/IMG_0782%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tgODpZWJztg/Vkdq_DSLdgI/AAAAAAAAIBU/GykMRcLmyRY/s1600/IMG_0782%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tgODpZWJztg/Vkdq_DSLdgI/AAAAAAAAIBU/GykMRcLmyRY/s320/IMG_0782%255B1%255D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tgODpZWJztg/Vkdq_DSLdgI/AAAAAAAAIBU/GykMRcLmyRY/s1600/IMG_0782%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> </a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8EnqqUG3YCA/Vkdm9IYzldI/AAAAAAAAIA8/d6cXyRECKj8/s1600/IMG_0783%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8EnqqUG3YCA/Vkdm9IYzldI/AAAAAAAAIA8/d6cXyRECKj8/s320/IMG_0783%255B1%255D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And the picture above was taken in <a href="http://freecampsites.net/#!7878&query=sitedetails">Hereford, TX</a>. Both sites are located in city parks with a lake and provided free electricity. The park in Hereford, TX also gave us access to water. Hot showers were available at the YMCA, located at the same address and situated in front of the RV park.<br />
<br />
Freecampsites.net also has a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/FreeCampsites.Net/?fref=ts">facebook page</a>

<img class="CSS_LIGHTBOX_SCALED_IMAGE_IMG" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-SXItFHGcEs/TSCR6tMEYeI/AAAAAAAAE7o/Gd3c31u5_1M/s1600/IMG_4692.JPG" style="height: 224px; width: 300px;" /><br />
<br />
and then moved into Theo<br />
<img class="CSS_LIGHTBOX_SCALED_IMAGE_IMG" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BPfp6c2JLFI/UKjsIb_unjI/AAAAAAAAG1M/dRltW5GDdjA/s1600/TTheo.jpg" style="height: 224px; width: 300px;" /><br />
<br />
After 2 years in Theo, we decided she was really too big and too much responsibility with all those systems that needed maintaining. So we traveled in our little 2005 Pontiac Vibe. Love that car!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e5_o5s3qWto/ViAl5MobajI/AAAAAAAAH_o/9eA2tlFKodM/s1600/stumpy%2Bvibe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e5_o5s3qWto/ViAl5MobajI/AAAAAAAAH_o/9eA2tlFKodM/s320/stumpy%2Bvibe.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And here's our latest home</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8XXRwC6bEF0/ViAmLsM7nAI/AAAAAAAAH_w/u-V0Kpnu-uI/s1600/van1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8XXRwC6bEF0/ViAmLsM7nAI/AAAAAAAAH_w/u-V0Kpnu-uI/s320/van1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We've been in MA for almost a year and a half. although it's really hard leaving the people we love. the thought of spending another winter here... well, I can't even bare to think about it never mind actually do it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We leave in just a few days and I'm excited to be back on the road and heading for sunshine and warmth! Hope to see you out there!</div>

<span class="st">Mr. Harry, the caretaker, welcomed me warmly, in spite of me being a Yankee. Actually, he did more than welcome me. He cooked me and a couple other "foreigners" a delicious Cajun style dinner of sausage, pork beans and rice. Mere words cannot do that meal justice. <span class="st">The park itself is beautifully kept, with 13 RV sites with electricity. A few of the sites are on the water, but all are within spitting distance of the river. <br />
Did you know that American ghost towns are rapidly disappearing from the map? As a child, do you remember watching the westerns and dreaming of living in the era of the pioneer of the old west? I don't think that dream has changed for the younger generations.<br />
<br />
Mr. and Mrs. Edmunds, visionaries both, are working hard to make sure future generations have the opportunity to experience the old west. They've spent their retirement, literally, rebuilding Chloride.<br />
<br />
My pictures can't do Chloride, or the Edmunds justice. Please visit their website,<a href="http://www.pioneerstoremuseum.com/index.html"> <span style="color: blue;"><strong>The Pioneer Store Museum</strong></span></a><span style="color: blue;"><strong>,</strong></span> for better pictures and more information.<br />
<br />
J.M.House visited Chloride in 2012. She (or he, as the case may be) documents Chloride's history in a blog post <a href="http://cityofdust.blogspot.com/2012/03/resurrection-chloride-new-mexico.html"><strong><span style="color: blue;">City of Dust, A Resurrection: Chloride, New Mexico</span></strong></a>. By the way, the blog<strong><span style="color: blue;"> </span></strong><a href="http://cityofdust.blogspot.com/"><strong><span style="color: blue;">City of Dust</span></strong></a>, is a wonderfully researched and written resource for you lovers of history.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When the Edmunds purchased the building it was inhabited by bats,rats and other vermin. They literally had to scrape the guano off of everything. You can see the damage, caused by the guano, on the front of this safe.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There also guest cabins, available for those traveling without the comfort of an RV. <a href="http://www.pioneerstoremuseum.com/Pye_Cabin.html"><strong><span style="color: blue;">The Pye Cabin</span></strong></a> is a restored miners' cabin with all the comforts of home.</div>

The Edmunds do, on occasion, have volunteer opportunities. Currently, a couple is finishing up their commitment with a few months left. They liked it so well they stayed for a year! Contact information is listed on the <a href="http://www.pioneerstoremuseum.com/General_Information.html"><strong><span style="color: blue;">website</span></strong></a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Chloride is a special place and the Edmunds are very special people. Their passion for Chloride and preserving American history is apparent. Mrs. Edmunds was so generous with her time and more than willing to spend as much time as we wanted, sharing what she has discovered about the town and it's earlier residents.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Although the town is a bit of a drive it's worth every second. Next time I visit I'll be bringing the moho so I can spend even more time there. The immediate area surrounding Chloride is very pretty and it's barely a mile from the <a href="http://www.fs.usda.gov/gila/"><strong><span style="color: blue;">Gila National Forest.</span></strong></a></div>

We spent a week in Texas. It seemed like mostly driving. Texas is one big state.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Free, overnight camping was not easily found. Our first night was spent in the Saddleback Mountain RV Park (EXIT 212 I-10, <span class="locality">Balmorhea</span>, <span class="region">TX</span>, <span class="postal-code">79718 </span>(432) 375-2418.) It's a bare bones site with full hook-ups. The park is clean, attractively landscaped and has a nature walk.The campsites were level. The park is right off the interstate, but the noise level wasn't too bad.There are no facilities and although I read on line that free WiFi was available, I was not able to connect to the internet on their network. Check in at the convenience store. $20.00/$10.00 with Passport America.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YjabCrV_ErE/UU7iU__xQzI/AAAAAAAAHjQ/u3GewPqWnFw/s1600/saddle+back+mountain+tx.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YjabCrV_ErE/UU7iU__xQzI/AAAAAAAAHjQ/u3GewPqWnFw/s320/saddle+back+mountain+tx.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We made our way through the Texas Hill Country.The Texas wild flowers should have been in full bloom, but due to the devastating drought throughout, Texas things were looking pretty brown.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I didn't take into account spring break for both the colleges and grade schools. The Texas state parks were packed. For the next week I camped at privately owned RV parks.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Our next night was spent at the <a href="http://www.roadrunnerrvparktexas.com/index.html"><strong><span style="color: blue;">Roadrunner RV Park</span></strong></a> in Johnson City (501 S. US HWY 281</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Johnson City, TX (830) 868-7449) This park provides your basic side by side camping, full hook-ups, free WiFi and a host of other amenities. The sites were level and it was clean and quiet. $25.00 a night and the Good Sam's Club discount was honored. No pictures, though! I just wanted off the road and to take a shower!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I met and camped with a high school buddy in Wimberly, TX. Wimberly is a pretty cool town with a pretty cool vibe. We, especially Stumpy, enjoyed the Blanco River.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Water! At long last!<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We stayed at<a href="http://www.greenacresrv.com/"> <strong><span style="color: blue;">Green Acres RV Park</span></strong>.</a> (340 Wayside Dr Wimberley <nobr>(512) 847-3772.)</nobr> LaVonne, the park owner is wonderfully friendly and accommodating. The park is very clean, with full hook-ups but there are no facilities. There are some larger sites, but I was in the smallest site I have ever seen, anywhere. I was fortunate, however, to find a place to park, anywhere, due to school holidays. <br />
<br />
The deer visited a couple times a day.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm still seeing cactus, though. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tn5UGubiHfw/UVqzwX0ROGI/AAAAAAAAHn0/queChXQ-B2U/s1600/cactus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tn5UGubiHfw/UVqzwX0ROGI/AAAAAAAAHn0/queChXQ-B2U/s320/cactus.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
MUST. GET. FURTHER. from the DESERT!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I left Wimberly and spent one more night in Texas. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CjKMmSpJDZ8/UU7pfehK3OI/AAAAAAAAHj0/2trj1FBBM48/s1600/winnie+tx.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CjKMmSpJDZ8/UU7pfehK3OI/AAAAAAAAHj0/2trj1FBBM48/s320/winnie+tx.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found this rest area o-line and the setting was described as camp-like. NOT!!! I was surrounded by 18 wheelers in a matter of hours. I parked at the far end of the rest area in order to give them as much room as possible. One parked so close that I could not get out my door, in the morning. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I <em>LOVED</em> Truth or Consequences! Enough so, that I will consider it as a possibility for my home-base, when I am ready to make that decision.<br />
<br />
We stayed at the <a href="https://sites.google.com/site/artesianbathhousenm/"><strong><span style="color: blue;">Artesian Bath House and RV Park</span></strong></a>. The park and facilities are older, but very clean and the owner, Bill, is awesome! He will go out of his way to make sure his guests are happy and comfortable. The rates are beyond reasonable.<br />

<br />
<div style="font-family: georgia,serif; margin-left: 0.5in; text-align: justify;">
</div>
The park is situated close enough to the downtown area that you can walk, everywhere: to the grocery store, the post office, the galleries, restaurants and museums.<br />
<br />
It's also only a block from the Rio Grande. At the water front park there are hiking trails, fishing and the unofficial dog park.The Rio Grande was much grander at this point.<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i8VeiIE4rMg/UU268FyMvPI/AAAAAAAAHfU/6k80sjkp89s/s1600/20130310_193011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i8VeiIE4rMg/UU268FyMvPI/AAAAAAAAHfU/6k80sjkp89s/s320/20130310_193011.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
To top off a wonderful week, my friends Alan, Joann and Snickers joined me for a few days. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_ACMHIhqfls/UU3DBqLMOmI/AAAAAAAAHf0/npRXHTLIVnA/s1600/alan+joanne+snickers.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_ACMHIhqfls/UU3DBqLMOmI/AAAAAAAAHf0/npRXHTLIVnA/s320/alan+joanne+snickers.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
They took me out sight-seeing (next post), fed me, allowed me to watch TV in their big, comfortable 5th wheel and spoiled Stumpy rotten. Best of all were the multiple daily dog walks along the river.<br />
<br />
Just when I thought the whole Tor C experience couldn't get any better we met up with local resident and my RTR buddy, <a href="http://manywheelsbrian.blogspot.com/"><span style="color: blue;"><strong>Bri</strong></span></a> and his lovely wife Kit, who I had been dying to meet for years. They were kind enough to give us a tour of their lovely residence and their many wheels.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dSbqvG4O-6k/UU3EVpl4SfI/AAAAAAAAHf8/DKNFxkNa3Kw/s1600/cyndi+alan+joann+bri.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dSbqvG4O-6k/UU3EVpl4SfI/AAAAAAAAHf8/DKNFxkNa3Kw/s320/cyndi+alan+joann+bri.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Joann, Alan, Bri and I then went to <a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g47241-d1552453-r124301741-Maria_s-Truth_or_Consequences_Sierra_County_New_Mexico.html"><strong><span style="color: blue;">Maria's</span></strong></a>, a wonderful Mexican Restaurant, in the Williamsburg section (Thanks Bri!) of Tor C, for lunch. One day, I swear, I am going to order something other than Chile rellanos. But, GAWD! I just can't seem to help myself!<br />
<br />
Thanks to my good friends for a great time, lots of laughs and memories to last a lifetime!<br />
<br />
As a side note, Briii has a sweet, older, converted short bus for sale. You can contact him through <a href="http://manywheelsbrian.blogspot.com/"><strong><span style="color: blue;">his blog</span></strong></a>.<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xhMOAqPsRPY/UUsNmSVS0LI/AAAAAAAAHcs/2PQypwbrkWA/s1600/20130301_185120.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xhMOAqPsRPY/UUsNmSVS0LI/AAAAAAAAHcs/2PQypwbrkWA/s320/20130301_185120.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
This visit was no different; begining with my first night.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e7LkdRgDdyg/UUsLm3qXiVI/AAAAAAAAHcc/besksey6vz4/s1600/I10+mile+marker+53+NM.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jK11qdBc_b8/UUrj1JJ2n4I/AAAAAAAAHb8/IrzceRM_Du4/s1600/20130302_064819.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jK11qdBc_b8/UUrj1JJ2n4I/AAAAAAAAHb8/IrzceRM_Du4/s320/20130302_064819.jpg" width="240" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e7LkdRgDdyg/UUsLm3qXiVI/AAAAAAAAHcc/besksey6vz4/s1600/I10+mile+marker+53+NM.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="189" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e7LkdRgDdyg/UUsLm3qXiVI/AAAAAAAAHcc/besksey6vz4/s320/I10+mile+marker+53+NM.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
New Mexico offers shaded respite, <a href="http://freecampsites.net/i-10-rest-area-mile-marker-53-east-bound/"><strong><span style="color: blue;">along Interstate 10</span></strong></a>. You can overnight at these rest areas and I did. (Thanks, <a href="http://freecampsites.net/"><strong><span style="color: blue;">FreeCampsites.net</span></strong></a>!)
<br />
<br />
I continued on to Truth or Consequences and was, again, enthralled by New Mexico. For some great information and pictures about T or C check out <a href="http://phunnyfarm.blogspot.com/2012/02/truth-or-consequences-new-mexico-usa.html"><span style="color: blue;"><strong>Happy Trails' post</strong></span></a> about their home town.
<br />
<br />
Truth or Consequences seems to be very RV and Van Dweller friendly. One morning, I was walking Stumpy and there was a Class A rig, parked on the side of the road, it's generator and a propane tank were set out on the sidewalk. I also noted a couple of vans and a fifth wheel parked in the same spot, by the river, almost the entire time I was in town.<br />
<br />
My first night in T or C, I stayed in Elephant Butte State Park.
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3XnFypuMa2s/UUrmkQ78UFI/AAAAAAAAHcQ/lPE_opq6FZ8/s320/20130302_161528.jpg" width="240" />
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x53S8PPFARw/UUsO2G_ibHI/AAAAAAAAHc0/b_qFGvKqcFc/s1600/heron+eagle+butte1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a> </div>
At $6.00 a night for primitive camping and $10.00 for the amenities, including a shelter and fire pit. This is a nice little wayside camping spot. The campground overlooks the Rio Grande River. It's open year round, has 17 (I think) shelters, is big enough for most rigs and has porta potties and restrooms/showers (only open from May through October).<br />
<br />
I was thrilled to see my first Great Blue Heron, in two years.
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x53S8PPFARw/UUsO2G_ibHI/AAAAAAAAHc0/b_qFGvKqcFc/s1600/heron+eagle+butte1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x53S8PPFARw/UUsO2G_ibHI/AAAAAAAAHc0/b_qFGvKqcFc/s320/heron+eagle+butte1.jpg" width="320" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The Rio Grande was not so grand, at this point. People were fishing and it was teeming with birds but was not running and was murky and algae-filled. Stumpy didn't care. She would have swam in it in spite of being advised not to, by the locals.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EF6pMzepNdY/UUsSshB70KI/AAAAAAAAHc8/Fcy0Ns1XevQ/s1600/stumpy+rio+grande.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="311" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EF6pMzepNdY/UUsSshB70KI/AAAAAAAAHc8/Fcy0Ns1XevQ/s320/stumpy+rio+grande.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Had I not already made reservations, elsewhere, I would have been happy to stay here for the duration of the 14 day limit.<br />
<br />
The campsites are first come/first serve and can't be reserved. I arrived on a Saturday around 4pm and only 4 of the 17 campsites were occupied.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-A1ogiVtxzlQ/UTp4icH0mRI/AAAAAAAAHWs/JzWCK-qzMwU/s1600/casino+del+sol.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-A1ogiVtxzlQ/UTp4icH0mRI/AAAAAAAAHWs/JzWCK-qzMwU/s1600/casino+del+sol.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I spent three days as the guest of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, at the <a href="http://www.casinodelsol.com/"><strong><span style="color: blue;">Casino Del Sol</span></strong></a>, in Tucson, Arizona.<br />
<br />
Never having casino camped,before, I was a bit leery. But, I was made to feel welcome and very comfortable by the other RVing guests, immediately.<br />
<br />
Still, I thought I would leave the next morning, since I am not a fan of pavement camping.<br />
<br />
I wasn't in the mood to drive the next morning so I decided to stay one.more day.I visited with the other parking lot inhabitants and really enjoyed their company.<br />
<br />
Besides really nice neighbors we had a great view<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DQM_UpvVEcs/UTqbZE6hmZI/AAAAAAAAHXI/sYRWJ2n1oKA/s1600/DSC00494.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DQM_UpvVEcs/UTqbZE6hmZI/AAAAAAAAHXI/sYRWJ2n1oKA/s320/DSC00494.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And there were plenty of places to walk Stumpy. The Tribe is building a golf course which made for a really nice walk.</div>
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xko_xBACBgE/UTqcIjDwAFI/AAAAAAAAHXM/VM3LfHyerSw/s1600/golfcourse2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Waiting another day had it's perks.<br />
<br />
I got to meet Roxanne, of <a href="http://www.thegoodluckduck.com/"><strong><span style="color: blue;">The Good Luck Duck</span></strong></a> blog (Annie chose dumping tanks over meeting me. HMPH!!! Don't worry, Annie, I am over it.)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--TgzjTor_9c/UTqarQVSo9I/AAAAAAAAHW8/JFKmnGf3WIs/s1600/cyndi+roxanne.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--TgzjTor_9c/UTqarQVSo9I/AAAAAAAAHW8/JFKmnGf3WIs/s320/cyndi+roxanne.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And then two of my RTR buddies showed up!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CZxUZmZ9_IY/UTqdxalC9aI/AAAAAAAAHXc/yso3oa7N7Ic/s1600/trish+ryan.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CZxUZmZ9_IY/UTqdxalC9aI/AAAAAAAAHXc/yso3oa7N7Ic/s320/trish+ryan.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Tish and Ryan</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Actually, Ryan, a nomad who blogs at <a href="http://www.newagenomad.com/"><strong><span style="color: blue;">New Age Nomad</span></strong></a>, was at the casino before I arrived. I just didn't find out until the night before I left.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I stayed three nights at the Casino Del Sol and really hated to leave.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Looking forward to seeing all of you again. And next time, meeting you, Annie! I told you I was over it!</div>

By now, you've read all about the RTR on other blogs. If you haven't, a list of blog posts about this years' Rubber Tramp Rendezvous can be found <strong><span style="color: blue;"><a href="http://rvlyeverafter.blogspot.com/2013/02/2013-winter-rubber-tramp-rendezvous.html">here</a></span></strong>.<br />
<br />
A number of us stayed on (and on and on and on) in Quartzsite, after the RTR. The party continued and the RTR just kept getting better.<br />
<br />
Days often began with coffee, in front of Theo<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h2OG7o-cwrw/UTVxHP0O_vI/AAAAAAAAHRk/qcEVbp6IEFo/s1600/coffee+at+Theo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h2OG7o-cwrw/UTVxHP0O_vI/AAAAAAAAHRk/qcEVbp6IEFo/s320/coffee+at+Theo.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

Tish's mornings began later than ours<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
There was plenty of good food.
Lesa made some tasty breakfasts; pancakes one morning and biscuits and gravy another.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tcFEwXACXkU/UTSkGik5BLI/AAAAAAAAHPY/_6go6hJlfKg/s1600/post+rtr+breakfast3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tcFEwXACXkU/UTSkGik5BLI/AAAAAAAAHPY/_6go6hJlfKg/s320/post+rtr+breakfast3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I made a couple of meals for the gang<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e5uodvruAhg/UTVsO0VoB9I/AAAAAAAAHQo/CWQkgyyjlGw/s1600/breakfast+with+theo3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e5uodvruAhg/UTVsO0VoB9I/AAAAAAAAHQo/CWQkgyyjlGw/s320/breakfast+with+theo3.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />

Jenn was awoken on her birthday with a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday that wouldn't end until she made an appearance. And we delivered breakfast, coffee and brownies. I know Jenn will be real sad to find out I can find those pictures anywhere.<br />

Max and his wife, Bev, invited us down to his place for a fire, one night. Max is my hero. He's 86 and had both knees replaced about 10 years ago. He's put over 80,000 miles on those knees. His goal is 100, 000 miles. I hope to match his spirit and his miles!<br />

<br />
<br />
I left Quartzsite on February 26 heading south and east.
Many thanks, once again to D, for all his help with my rig; And to Gilbert and Brian for their help with Theo's solar set up!Cyndi and Stumpyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15945219976457829612noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2306518703205374899.post-35226274124162418672013-02-25T06:30:00.000-08:002013-02-25T06:30:02.790-08:00It Took A Village<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0HYUd-HRCuo/URZVc3dlCAI/AAAAAAAAHBk/hKia-iZFYLw/s1600/breakfast%2Bwith%2Btheo2.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0HYUd-HRCuo/URZVc3dlCAI/AAAAAAAAHBk/hKia-iZFYLw/s400/breakfast%2Bwith%2Btheo2.JPG" width="400" /></a>
<br />
I mean a tribe, to get Theo road worthy. And that tribe can be found at the RTR in Quartzsite, in January.<br />
<br />
When I left dirtville, I thought Theo, was almost ready to go. A few minor repairs when I got to Vegas and we would FINALLY be on the road. <br />
<br />
Repairs completed, we headed for Quartzsite. Unfortunately, Theo was not quite ready to hit the road. When we arrived,a downpour brought more leaks in the roof. We discovered the transmission was leaking, yet,again. The generator was blowing black smoke. <b>AND<i></i></b> I was still hoping to get my solar system installed, too. With the exception of the generator,all these issues had been dealt with previously.
<br />
<br />
Cue the Mighty Mouse Theme song

<br />
First up, my buddy Steve (AKA 4x4 Steve) goes to work on the generator, discovering that in spite of me paying to have the work done, it's probably been years since the oil, filter or plugs were changed. It's still a noisy, stinky generator. But it runs great. And it is a little less stinky and noisy<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_vaCDWWtg7A/UStp7eUzApI/AAAAAAAAHJU/m4gHaYuNls8/s1600/edit+zeke-001.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_vaCDWWtg7A/UStp7eUzApI/AAAAAAAAHJU/m4gHaYuNls8/s320/edit+zeke-001.JPG" /></a><br />
Thanks, Steve!<br />
<br />
DH tackled the solar with help from Gilbert, Blars and Joey and numerous other people stopping by to offer assistance and advice. Also, I was trucked around town by good friends, Katie and Cheri to pick up various parts.
<br />
<br />
Not long after the RTR DH,Gilbert and Brian attached the flexible pane to the roof, permanently.<br />

Love you guys!<br />
<br />
Of course, I have Bob to thank for organizing the RTR; an event I've attended 3 years running. I sooooooooooooo look forward to this gathering, reuniting with old friends and meeting new friends.<br />

<br />
And I must thank Jerry and Nelda for keeping me charged before Theo got her solar power.<br />
<br />
I could and should probably go on and on. I am sure I missed at least a few people who were more than happy to help me out and keep my spirits up when Theo's repairs seemed insurmountable.
<br />
<br />
Thanks, everyone!
See ya next year!

<br />
<br />
There's a very good reason you might wait for Mark Ornbaum, owner of <a href="http://discountrvrepair.com/"><strong><span style="color: blue;">Discount RV Repair</span></strong></a>. He is busy, because he is THAT good!<br />
<br />
I called Discount RV Repairs after finding them on the <a href="http://rvservicereviews.com/Index.asp"><strong><span style="color: blue;">RV Service Reviews</span></strong></a> website (link located on the right sidebar); what should be your bible for finding reliable services, on the road. Five reviewers gave Mark and Discount RV Repair five excellent grades for the services provided.<br />
<br />
I spoke with Mark, directly, and he told me he would be out later that same afternoon. Upon his arrival it was discovered that I needed a new propane regulator box. The repair could be tricky because regulator boxes have gotten bigger since the one on my moho had been installed (1988?) He said he would look, on Sunday for the part, and return Monday afternoon to finish the job.<br />
<br />
I waited on Monday but Mark did not call or show up. I left a message, asking how late he would be working. I already knew he worked late, since on Saturday he didn't get to me until after dark.<br />
<br />
Mark called Tuesday morning and apologised profusely for not getting back to me on Monday. He was, literally, up to his elbows in someone's black tank, until 10pm. More importantly, he was on his way.<br />
<br />
Mr. Ornbaum arrived in good humor and, in no time at all, the propane regulator box was installed. Mark then went above and beyond and crawled underneath the motor home to look at a leak. RV discount Repairs does not handle mechanical problems, but Mark was happy to advise me.<br />
<br />
When presenting the <em>VERY</em> reasonable bill for services Mark explained the he did not charge a mobile service fee in order to make up for keeping me waiting!<br />
<br />
Thanks, Mark and Discount RV Repairs, for a job well done!<br />

<br />
It looks harmless enough, right?<br />
<img height="450" id="il_fi" src="http://trustlifetoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Cattle-guard.jpg" style="padding-bottom: 8px; padding-right: 8px; padding-top: 8px;" width="602" /><br />
<br />
It almost didn't happen; the escape that is. A malfunctioning refrigerator, a propane leak, tires low (and no place to get air in dirtville) all worked against my leaving dirtville, permanently this time.<br />
<br />
You see, in order to leave dirtville you must cross one of two cattle guards. There's a superstition that lives in Dirtvillian minds. Almost irrefutable proof exists that some other-worldly phenomna will prevent a person leaving if they are fleeing dirtville, forever.<br />
<br />
Oh sure, you can go on a shopping trip to Vegas, Kingman, Bullhead City or Havasu. You can even take an extended vacation. But if you head towards the cattle guard with thoughts of liberation, some type of trouble will befall you.<br />
<br />
Having worked through all the issues placed in the way of escape, I headed for the cattle guard. Fingers crossed, prayers uttered, and talismans placed stratigically around the MoHo, I rolled down the hill into the flatlands. <br />
<br />
When I reached the flatlands I realized Theo was not shifting into high gear. What the hell??!!!??? This is the same problem that's been worked on 5 times, for over a year. I've driven the rig numerous times without issue. WHAT. THE. FRIGGEN. HELL???<br />
<br />
I went over the cattle guard, anyways. Now the rig won't shift from first into second. I turn around, defeated; my extraction from dirtville, thwarted.<br />
<br />
I had already called any mechanically minded friends looking to get my tires aired and knew everyone was either in Vegas or Kingman. I have one friend in the flatlands, with RV hook ups. I call him, knowing he is in Kingman, and get the ok to park at his house.<br />
<br />
At this point, I'm thinking my son is going to have to come and get me. He can borrow his dad's truck and trailer. We'll load all my stuff and I'll move in with him until I can find affordable digs. He'll be thrilled, no doubt!<br />
<br />
When Jerry arrived home he took the MoHo for a spin. <br />

OK. Who knew there's a little trick to get a transmission to shift when it doesn't want to? And why didn't you tell me? I've been driving trucks for almost 30 years; everything from Ford vans (E150s to E350s) to a 2-ton stepvan. The times that the vehicles shifted was a fluke??? The RV's transmission is fine, albeit on the older side. Sometimes it needs a little help shifting. <br />

If you're headed to Quartzsite this winter, the <strong><span style="background-color: white; color: blue;"><a href="http://desertmessenger.blogspot.com/search?q=best+of+quartzsite">Desert Messenger </a></span></strong> provided a "BEST Of'" list of businesses providing the best services in 2011. These listings were compiled through public vote. It doesn't appear that this contest was held in 2012<br />
<br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;">Best Alternative Energy: Solar & Sun won overwhelmingly with Solar Panels, Coal, and Discount Solar coming in close behind.</span><br style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;" /><br style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;" /><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;">Best BBQ: Jerky Store & More on Hwy. 95 was the only one to receive votes, other than “slim pickin’s”!</span><br style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;" /><br style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;" /><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;">Best Biscuits and Gravy: This was a very popular contest for who had the best in town. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BPfp6c2JLFI/UKjsIb_unjI/AAAAAAAAG1M/dRltW5GDdjA/s1600/TTheo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BPfp6c2JLFI/UKjsIb_unjI/AAAAAAAAG1M/dRltW5GDdjA/s1600/TTheo.jpg" /></a></div>
It's been just over a year, since <a href="http://rvlyeverafter.blogspot.com/2011/09/goin-mobile.html"><strong><span style="background-color: white; color: blue;">I brought Theo home</span></strong></a> (Before pictures can be seen at this link, also). Living in the middle of nowhere makes repairs a bit of a challenge. I am limited to local services that seem to be unreliable, at best.<br />
<br />
After having transmission work done on the moho four times, it finally seems that those problems are under control.<br />
<br />
I've had no less than five people offer to do the interior renovations I had planned. Four of those people ended up blowing me off.<br />
<br />
The fifth person, and the person I should have do the work originally is, as I write, tearing Theo's insides out, renovating and refurbishing. The resulting metamorphosis will be the beginning of our life on the road.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Jerry tore out the toilet to find the floor rotted. Both the toilet and the floor will be replaced.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The carpet and two captains chairs were removed. He's laying down some cool <a href="http://www.homedepot.com/Flooring-Vinyl-Flooring-Resilient-Flooring-Resilient-Vinyl-Planks/h_d1/N-5yc1vZbzjz/R-202352552/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&storeId=10051"><strong><span style="background-color: white; color: blue;">vinyl plank flooring</span></strong></a>. The chairs will not be replaced. It really opens up the living area!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The jack knife couch was removed and Jerry is building a day bed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He's doing a lot of caulking this and tightening that.</div>
<br />
We'll be moving into the RV at the end of this month. We have to remain between NW AZ and Las Vegas until early January, when we will head to Quartzsite for the <a href="http://cheapgreenrvliving.com/Rendezvous.html"><strong><span style="background-color: white; color: blue;">3rd Annual Winter RTR</span></strong></a><br />
<br />
Stumpy is looking forward to reuniting with her posse. And I can't wait to see my RTR family and meet new friends with whom I communicate on the <a href="http://www.cheaprvlivingforum.com/"><strong><span style="color: blue;">Cheap RV Living forum</span></strong></a> and blogs.<br />
<br />
See you out there!<br />
<br />
*I'm still having problems with blogger. When I have a reading list, I do read your blogs. When blogger allows me to comment, which is rare, I comment. I know my blog isn't showing up on many reading lists, also. I've communicated with the powers that be, at blogger, and it seems there is nothing they can do to fix these issues. I can't help but wonder if I chose to pay to blog, through advertising or a custom domain, if the problems would disappear.Cyndi and Stumpyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15945219976457829612noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2306518703205374899.post-78502522670893595032012-09-24T10:50:00.003-07:002012-09-24T10:50:53.433-07:003rd Annual Rubber Tramp Rendezvous 2013<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
Make no mistake, the RTR is a dog friendly event. The interaction between the pack members is one of my favorite things about this gathering. (Yes, I love all you people, but the dogs really complete the event.) I was REALLY looking forward to Stumpy running wild with her buddies. When we first pulled in my heart sank. I saw more than one dog on a leash and immediately thought, "ACK! How on earth am I going to convince Stumpy that she will not be able to run wild with her posse.<br />
<br />
Fortunately, that was not the case. There were a few dogs there, that for whatever reason were restrained. (I appreciate responsible humans that know and understand their dogs' behavior and/or limits and act accordingly! xox THANK YOU!!!)<br />
<br />
Again, I use the excuse of the new camera, broken laptop, the (insert as many four letter words, as many times as you want) sloooooooooooooow netbook and blogger issues for the lack of pictures and the quality of the photos I post, here. I've even resorted to recycling pictures from last years post!<br />
<br />
Stumpy's nemesis, Rain arrived on Tuesday. A cattle dog stink eye stare down ensued, immediately.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4ssOOI0yfGs/TyanCtkDJPI/AAAAAAAAGwA/gp4jrLTl4S4/s1600/cattle+dog+stink+eye+showdown.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4ssOOI0yfGs/TyanCtkDJPI/AAAAAAAAGwA/gp4jrLTl4S4/s320/cattle+dog+stink+eye+showdown.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Rain really matured over the year and was able to meet and hold Stumpy's gaze. There was no winner.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
Returning pack members included:<br />
<br />
Homer, our handsome host <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_U7IawVZ-eo/TybIJd8C7VI/AAAAAAAAGxQ/vWvyOObsKtw/s1600/DSC00164.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_U7IawVZ-eo/TybIJd8C7VI/AAAAAAAAGxQ/vWvyOObsKtw/s320/DSC00164.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Izzie left early last year, so I had no pictures of him. Tawny, a pit bull mix, an English setter, a beagle and two chihuahuas were among the dogs that are not pictured. I estimate over 20 dogs in our encampment. There were a couple of little squabbles, but amazingly all the dogs get along, in their own way.<br />
<br />
It's interesting to note that almost every traveler's dog, that I have met, is a rescue or shelter dog. Another thing to love about people on the road!<br />

<br />
I met people whose blog I have followed and/or chatted with on the <a href="http://www.cheaprvlivingforum.com/">Cheap RV Living forum</a>. And plenty of attendees of last year’s RTR returned for the gathering.<br />
<br />
I wasn’t as mobile as I would have liked (new knees on order, installation expected in April! YIPEEEE!!!!) so I didn’t get as many pictures but I’ll share those that I did. I’m also learning to use a new camera and was less than satisfied with my efforts.<br />

There was a <a href="http://cheapgreenrvliving.com/RTR_Calander_2012.html">schedule of informal seminars/discussions</a> and several impromptu colloquiums were held, also.<br />

<br />
This is a company that knows the value of customer service!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X4IIxvxNC-8/TuSo1nQoObI/AAAAAAAAGps/CUaZmdpQW5U/s1600/russels.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="131" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X4IIxvxNC-8/TuSo1nQoObI/AAAAAAAAGps/CUaZmdpQW5U/s400/russels.jpg" width="383" /></a></div><br />
I found Russel's through a local newspaper review of their services. Originally, I had taken my Ford Ranger in for basic maintenance, after purchasing it. I was impressed with their ethics and customer service, then. That hasn't changed.<br />
<br />
I, totally, admit to being somewhat anal and high maintenance when it comes to my vehicles' care. You know the type: completely lacking in knowledge, lots of questions and too many opinions. The staff at Russel's were patient and smiled throughout all our dealings, both on the phone and in person.<br />
<br />
Because this was a used purchase the techs/mechanics went over everything.<br />
<br />
Services/repairs included:<br />
<br />
Complete post purchase inspection (chassis and coach, inside and out)<br />
Basic maintenance<br />
generator repair<br />
some modifications<br />
tire repair and extended valve installation<br />
<br />
<br />
As a woman, I am very aware of the possibility that I could be an easy target. The service adviser, John, listened to what I had to say. If he had a question he called to make sure I was on board with his ideas and estimate. He let me know if something needed to be taken care of right away, or if it could wait and gave me estimates for future modifications.<br />
<br />
The whole experience was pleasant and stress-free. Everyone, from Sue in the office, to the mechanics and techs were friendly, personable and professional. It was easy to see they were grateful that I chose to support their business<br />
<br />
As a side note, they have a comfortable and clean waiting area with snacks and coffee!<br />
<br />
John called the following week to make sure I was happy with their service and all systems were go!<br />
<br />
Thanks to everyone at Russel's, for the great service they provide.<br />

</i><br />
<i>I hope those of you using RV service repairs will take the time to offer a review of services at <a href="http://rvservicereviews.com/Index.asp"><b>RV Service Reviews</b></a>. Last year's Rubber Tramp Rendezvous was so much fun I can't wait to get back there, in January. There's lots to the gathering besides the fun, that was just the icing on the cake. I met so many awesome people that are living my dream; and more awesome people in the planning mode, like myself. These great people were all so willing to share their knowledge, wisdom and experience.<br />
<br />
The area in which we camped, at the base of Dome Mountain, was beautiful<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-SXItFHGcEs/TUch2YveArI/AAAAAAAAFSk/DEYGCkkCLao/s1600/dome%2Brock.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568456682505110194" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-SXItFHGcEs/TUch2YveArI/AAAAAAAAFSk/DEYGCkkCLao/s400/dome%2Brock.jpg" style="cursor: hand; height: 224px; width: 400px;" /></a><br />
We were far from the maddening crowds, yet only minutes away from Quartzsite. The site had easy access to head west to Blythe and Parker, for shopping, if you didn't want to deal with the crowds in town.<br />
<br />
The sunrises<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-SXItFHGcEs/TTPZxuyOttI/AAAAAAAAFD4/0uNKX14O6No/s1600/IMG_4868.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5563029413128222418" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-SXItFHGcEs/TTPZxuyOttI/AAAAAAAAFD4/0uNKX14O6No/s400/IMG_4868.JPG" style="height: 300px; width: 400px;" /></a><br />
and sunsets<br />
<img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-SXItFHGcEs/TTPb5FLKALI/AAAAAAAAFEI/pHFfBIhKZGA/s400/IMG_4885.JPG" /><br />
were breathtaking, although my camera and skills don't do them justice.<br />
<br />
There were activities to interest everyone<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-SXItFHGcEs/TUcX3xuDGeI/AAAAAAAAFOk/C1TLrN7ZVwQ/s1600/wayne%2Bdavid%2Bchess2%2Bjan22.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568445711273630178" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-SXItFHGcEs/TUcX3xuDGeI/AAAAAAAAFOk/C1TLrN7ZVwQ/s400/wayne%2Bdavid%2Bchess2%2Bjan22.JPG" style="cursor: hand; height: 300px; width: 400px;" /></a><br />
<br />
Aficionados of Single Malt Scotch attended an educational experience in which they were able to taste both expensive brand names First Malt Scotch and obscure brands enabling them to compare and rate the bottles.<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-SXItFHGcEs/TUTzURjDQ4I/AAAAAAAAFKE/Sp5DlSBTRC4/s1600/IMG_5081.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567842568970126210" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-SXItFHGcEs/TUTzURjDQ4I/AAAAAAAAFKE/Sp5DlSBTRC4/s400/IMG_5081.JPG" style="cursor: pointer; height: 300px; width: 400px;" /></a><br />
<br />
That particular event got funnier as the night got later<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-SXItFHGcEs/TUBdRoXPbkI/AAAAAAAAFG4/rlRpBpI9wBU/s1600/IMG_5083.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5566551696903990850" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-SXItFHGcEs/TUBdRoXPbkI/AAAAAAAAFG4/rlRpBpI9wBU/s400/IMG_5083.JPG" style="cursor: pointer; height: 300px; width: 400px;" /></a><br />
If you would like to participate in the 2<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">nd</span> Annual Single Malt Scotch Educational Experience you have a year to pick up either a really expensive or an obscure brand of Single Malt Scotch. Oh hell, just bring a bottle of scotch, next year. We're not that fussy!<br />
<br />
<br />
The entertainment was non-stop<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ZwewT_IRZkk" title="YouTube video player" width="480"></iframe><br />
<br />
Thanks to Kaite and Alex we had several community meals that were beyond tasty! Everyone contributed something to help out.<br />
