RTR - Rubber Tramp Rendezvous 2016

I'm a slacker. I admit it. I hardly took a picture and didn't take a single note at the RTR this year. I did, however, have a blast.

Thank you, one and all, for writing these blog posts so I didn't have to.

The Rubber Tramp Rendezvous just keeps getting better!

I just returned from the 2nd Annual Rubber Tramp Rendezvous, in Quartzsite and I am already looking forward to RTR 2013!

I met people whose blog I have followed and/or chatted with on the Cheap RV Living forum. And plenty of attendees of last year’s RTR returned for the gathering.

I wasn’t as mobile as I would have liked (new knees on order, installation expected in April! YIPEEEE!!!!) so I didn’t get as many pictures but I’ll share those that I did. I’m also learning to use a new camera and was less than satisfied with my efforts.

Dome Rock Campsite Tuesday, 1/10

Each morning begins with various people meeting for an early morning walk.

There was a schedule of informal seminars/discussions and several impromptu colloquiums were held, also.

Brian shares information about camping on the Gulf coast of Texas

Izzie listens eagerly to the discussion. He's ready for the beach, Gary!

Cheri teaches the art of wire wrapping gemstones.

By the weekend about fifty rigs had arrived for the gathering. Vans, cars, tents, 5ers, TTs, Class Cs, Bs and As were all well represented.

Looks like blogger is done letting me upload pictures so this is it for today. I'll keep trying!

Below are links to other blogs referencing RTR 2012

Rocky the Goat made the scene. If he was there, why were't you???

Sam was honored with an award, here. and also wrote a post about the event here.

It was great to see Many Wheels Bri, again.

Niko the Nomad had some fun!

Ay and Jay enjoyed their stay in camp

Kirk BBQ'd pheasant wrapped in bacon and opened the Tiki Bar for us.

Ayo and Yair did some climbing during their stay.

Suanne posted her thoughts and some great pictures (and made a delicious beef stew, one night, for the whole camp!

More to come!

Rubber Tramp Rendezvous 2012, January 10 -24

Last year's Rubber Tramp Rendezvous was so much fun I can't wait to get back there, in January. There's lots to the gathering besides the fun, that was just the icing on the cake. I met so many awesome people that are living my dream; and more awesome people in the planning mode, like myself. These great people were all so willing to share their knowledge, wisdom and experience.

The area in which we camped, at the base of Dome Mountain, was beautiful

We were far from the maddening crowds, yet only minutes away from Quartzsite. The site had easy access to head west to Blythe and Parker, for shopping, if you didn't want to deal with the crowds in town.

The sunrises

and sunsets

were breathtaking, although my camera and skills don't do them justice.

There were activities to interest everyone

Aficionados of Single Malt Scotch attended an educational experience in which they were able to taste both expensive brand names First Malt Scotch and obscure brands enabling them to compare and rate the bottles.

That particular event got funnier as the night got later

If you would like to participate in the 2nd Annual Single Malt Scotch Educational Experience you have a year to pick up either a really expensive or an obscure brand of Single Malt Scotch. Oh hell, just bring a bottle of scotch, next year. We're not that fussy!

The entertainment was non-stop

Thanks to Kaite and Alex we had several community meals that were beyond tasty! Everyone contributed something to help out.

This is the way to start off your day!

For more information with regard to events, seminars, what to bring and location visit click here. There is NOTHING provided. We strive to make this event as green as possible, whatever you bring in you must plan on hauling out.

Of course, none of this would be possible with Bob's two wonderful websites Cheap RV Living and Cheap Green RV Living

In case you missed the fun, here are a few places where you can read about it.

Rubber Tramp Rendezvous: Here's what you've missed so far

I ran out of data/air time so I had to wait to post. We're having a great time. There are so many good people here! It's great fun checking out every one's rigs, picking people's brains and hearing their stories. I can't even guess how many people have been in and out of camp. The weather has been AWESOME! The days have been warm, with temperatures in the low 80's one afternoon. Nights have been chilly, but that's why we have campfires.

Saturday January 15

Informational sharing: Bob led a discussion with regard to solar power. There are many knowledgeable people here and we're hoping to do an actual install, later. (When I say we, I don't mean me. I'll document with the camera!)

Alex making "community soup" for dinner

A mini swap meet (we all have stuff we don't use, you can sell it or give it away here.)

Gorgeous sunset

Nightly bonfire (a couple of attendees showed off their juggling skills, including juggling lit torches! Video's uploaded when I return to civilization or on the 27th if I haven't exceeded my data limit)

Sunday (Jan 16) Sunrise

Bob led a discussion with regard to use of public lands

Sunset

Monday (Jan. 18)
Morning at the campfire

You could have learned to juggle! Johnny gave Alex juggling lessons

Friday (Jan 21)
Sandy showed how to install a hightop on a van

Kirk shares his knowledge and use of wind power

I didn't take pictures, but on Monday we also had a group of women gather to discuss Rving/van dwelling and life on the road. Our discussion broached a number of subjects including safety, guns, traveling alone, our choice of rigs and so many more. Awesome women, great role models and plenty of laughs!

If you'd like to meet the Quartzsite RTR dogs, Stumpy introduces them on her blog.

More, tomorrow! I broke down and bought more air/data!
